Tourist Guide Ghul
Ghul is one of the most beautiful villages situated in the mountains of Oman. The village lies at the junction of wadi Nakhal and wadi Ghul with spectacular gorges that cut deep into the mountains and lead up to Jabal Shams (the highest peak). The name Ghul in Arabic means an ‘evil jinn’ for which this village is well known. However, the village does not appear to be eerie at all. In fact the village looks beautiful, set amidst the towering mountains of Jabal Kawr and Jabal Shams. The village had a population of 250 inhabitants and 40 households in 1983. There are severe but occasional flash floods occurring in this region, hence people built their homes on the slopes of the Jabal Shams Mountains. One can purchase goat haired hand made carpets from the expert weavers in the village. The best time to visit is from September to early April when the climate is pleasant. From May to August it is hot and humid and from June to September it also rains as well as becomes foggy in the hills.
