Sohar - Sohar Castle

The Sohar Castle is an attractive tourist spot situated in the heart of Sohar city. It was built in the 13th and 14th century by the Emirs of Hormuz. The Portuguese were later expelled from the castle by Imam Bin Murshid Al Ya’arubi and the castle was then used as an administrative centre by the rulers of the Al Bu Said dynasty. The castle also houses a museum and an escape tunnel which runs from the fort to Wilayat of Buraimi.
