Manila: Attractions and more...
Manila is a blend of cultures and flavours that offers an endless serving of
places to see, sights to behold, and unforgettable experiences.
Right in the heart of Manila is found the “Walled City” –
Intramuros, built by the Spanish as a fort in 1590. At the centre of Intramuros
you can admire the impressive Manila Cathedral, the seat of the Catholic Archdiocese
of Manila. Then there is San Agustin Church, the oldest stone church in Manila
and one of the four Philippine Baroque Churches inscribed in UNESCO’s
World Heritage List. Moreover, Inframuros contains something as 15 churches
and six monasteries.
Malacañang Palace, the official residence of the Philippine President,
stands regally on the banks of the Pasig River.
If you love culture, you can’t miss a visit to the Casa Manila Museum,
the Museum of the Pilipino People and the Cultural Centre of the Philippines.
There is, as in most SE Asian cities, a spectacular Chinatown in the district
of Bimondo.
Other attractions in the city include the Rizal Park, Casa Manila, Bahay Tsinoy,
Plaza San Luis and the Coconut Palace.
