Butuan can be described as a city located in Philippines in its Caraga region.
Butuan lies in north-eastern portion of ‘Agusan Valley Mandanao’, on the banks of Agusan River. This place has been bounded by Agusan del Norte on the southern, western, and northern side; and on the eastern side by Agusan del Sur. On the north-western side, it’s bordered by ‘Butuan Bay’.
The name ‘Butuan’ has been believed to be derived from ‘Butuan’ one of the sour fruits. The other sources pertaining to entymology infer that this word has come from some ‘Datu Buntuan’; i.e. a chieftain ruling over Butuan once upon a time.
