Umm Salal Mohamed: Attractions and more...
Umm Salal Mohammed’s nineteenth-century fort is one of its major attractions, albeit it is mostly closed and perhaps the best to get into the premises is to jump over a low wall. Originally, a residential fort combining both civil and military functions, its high and thick sand-coloured walls and impressive façade along with typical Arabian crenellations make it worth a visit.
The two towers, one of which rises higher then four storeys, are impressive and make for an excellent photograph. Don’t miss the decorative architectural style that stands out, if you get a chance to get in.
Another attraction located adjacent to the fort is a small mosque; the old minaret has now been restored to its original form and stands as a fine example of Arabian architecture.
