The Qatar Museum and Aquarium is situated along Doha’s coastal cliff.
The Doha aquarium depicts the story of the memorial time when Qatar used to control two thirds of the entire Gulf region’s shipping industry.
The Aquatic Biological Consultancy Services of England contributed a small aquarium with twelve large tanks devoted to the Gulf's marine life.
The most intriguing aspects of the aquarium are the lagoons in which five special sailing vessels are anchored. These vessels were used by the Gulf sailors to explore the Indian Ocean and beyond.
These sailing vessels are among the last old wooden crafts to be built without the now standard modifications for inboard engines.
There is a separate section illustrating the story of Qatar's traditional boat-building methods, together with the pearl-diving and fishing industry which formed an important part of the country's economy before the discovery of oil.
Apart from the history involved the aquarium also exhibits a wide variety of fish, coral and shells.
