A major pilgrimage site in Madinah is the Al-Masjid an-Nabawi Mosque. It is the second holiest mosque in the world, after the Al-Haram in Mecca. It is built on the site of an ancient mosque built by Prophet Muhammad and thus is of great importance.
The mountain of Uhad is another sacred place of Islam, which was also the site of a significant war. The mountain contains many mosques where people offer their prayers and also visit the grave of the martyrs.
Regarded as the first mosque of the Muslims, Masjid Quba is a historic mosque whose foundation was laid down by Prophet Muhammad himself. It lies nearby the Al-Masjid an-Nabawi Mosque.
Jannat-ul-Baqi, a graveyard of the various followers of Prophet Muhammad, and the Badar, which is the site of major historic battles, are other places frequented by visitors.
