Mecca, in Saudi Arabia, is the capital city of the Makkah Province, which is located in the Sirat Mountains. The city is considered to be the holiest place of Islam because it is the birthplace of Muhammad, the Prophet. With a population of over 1,200,000 inhabitants, Mecca is the destination of the annual Muslim Hajj.
The climate in Mecca is inclined towards the extremes with cold winters and scorching hot summers. Mecca is surrounded by mountains and this affects the climate to a great extent. Rains are a rare phenomenon.
