Little India is situated to the east of the Singapore River across Chinatown and is an ethnic neighborhood in Singapore where one can find a typical Indian ambience.
This should not be misinterpreted with the Chulia Kampong district where many Indians reside as well.
Little India was previously known for its cattle rearing and trading in livestock. However, as economy developed the area started resembling a typical Indian neighborhood.
One can find people of all races coming to Little India to enjoy the flavors and tastes of Indian cuisine as well as buying typical Indian outfits and souvenirs.
The area is well lit up in Deepavali, the festival of lights, which is celebrated with great pomp and show.
The Serangoon Road is a commercial center here and has several malls and plazas for shopping.
Indian temples and mosques are also found in the Farrer Park Fields which is located in this neighborhood.
