Although Singapore is said to be a safe destination, but still there are petty crimes here and there, especially in crowded places. Cases of pick pocketing are often heard in Bugis and China Town.
Places like Orchard Towers, Balestier, Joo Chiat and Geylang are not very safe to visit at late hours as there are many gangs around these places. Illegal gambling is run by these gangsters. In case you happened to be threatened by the gang members, call the police.
