This region was founded under the Gojoseon Dynasty some 5000 years ago. Korea was however divided into two separate entities—North Korea and South Korea—much later during the Second World War. The Korean War fought between South Korea and North Korea in the 1950s is a nightmare in the history of Korea as millions of lives were lost.

The art form in South Korea is a diverse one although it bears similarity to the cultures in Japan and China. Chongak and minsogak are the two most popular forms of traditional music in South Korea. The country is also known for its traditional as well as modern forms of architecture. The entrances, decorated intricately, are worth paying attention to. The variety of handicrafts found in the country is also very wide with the main items being white pottery, jade carving, bamboo fan, grass weaving and so forth.

South Korea is located in eastern region of Asia on the southern half of the Korean Peninsula. It has a mountainous terrain with large stretches of coastal plains. The hills and mountains are carpeted with beautiful lush green forests. This country lies between the Yellow Sea and the Sea of Japan. Halla-San is the highest point in South Korea.
