The Korean New Year (lunar New Year), known locally as Seollal, is one of the biggest celebrations in South Korea. It is celebrated in February for three consecutive days and is a public holiday. Buddha’s Birthday (usually falls in April or May) is also celebrated with much fervour marked by lantern parades almost all over the country. 15 August, a public holiday, is celebrated as Liberation Day to mark the end of the Japanese imperial rule in South Korea.

The National Folks Art Festival, celebrated in September, is characterised by some of the best performances and exhibitions of the different art forms of the country. Similarly, Isadong Festival, Seoul Drum Festival, Dano Festival etc. offer an excellent insight into the wonderful culture of South Korea and are equally entertaining too.
