South Korea has a very low crime rate so tourists do not have to bother much about safety. However, care has to be taken against theft, pick-pocketing etc. in the larger cities, for instance, Pusan and Seoul. The police service is also very good and they employ English interpreters 24 hours a day.

Vaccination against hepatitis A is suggested as there are a few cases of tourists getting infected due to unhygienic ways of serving food in most restaurants. Food and water are generally safe, but it is advisable to consume bottled water. Hospitals in the smaller cities may not be well-equipped; however, those in the major cities are quite advanced. Medical expense is barely anything in South Korea as it is highly subsidised by the government.

When in South Korea one should avoid speaking on political matters specially those related to North Korea and USA. Also, the Korean culture should be respected at all times.
