Sinuiju is a city in North Korea and is the capital of the province P'yŏngan-pukto. The town lies on the border with the People's Republic of China on the border of the river Amrokgang. It is located at an average of seven meters above sea level. The geographic coordinates are 40.10 degree north latitude and 124.41 degrees east longitude. Sinuiju is located in the temperate climatic zone. The average annual temperature is 9.4 degrees centigrade; the annual rainfall is 1,043 millimetres. The warmest month is August with an average of 24.1 Celsius; the coldest month is January with -7.2 degrees Celsius on an average. Most precipitation falls in the month of July with an average of 313 millimetres. Sinuiju is an industrial town. The city is the transportation hub with roads and a rail link to the capital Pyongyang. In the city there are two universities and several colleges.
