Beruwela is a resort city near Colombo, Sri Lanka which is most popular for its golden beach that stretches a mile and some world-class hotels. Home to a population of about 140,000 inhabitants, Beruwela is Sri Lanka’s most developed holiday resort.
The city is characterised by a dry and sunny climate all year round. Beruwela has hot summers and pleasant winters. Although the place can be visited in all seasons, the period between October and March witnesses high tourist traffic. April to September receives short, irregular showers.
Historically, Beruwela is said to be the first Muslim settlement in Sri Lanka. It was a flourishing port city with an important trade route. Today, the tourism and fisheries industries are a dominant part of the economy, followed by agriculture.
