Moratuwa is a city and is located on the southwestern coast of Sri Lanka near Dehiwala Mount Laviana. It is situated on the Galle Colombo highway.
The city is surrounded by water on three sides. The city was named after Muru Atuwa that means Sentry Turret in Sinhalese. The people of this place feel proud that Veera Puran Appu who rose against the British was born in this place.
