Negombo, a traditional fishing town, is situated at the mouth of the Negombo Lagoon, Sri Lanka. It is home to a population of about 70,000 residents and is a peaceful and serene getaway. Negombo is also an important trading port and an access point for the Bandaranaike International Airport.
The city is characterised by a tropical climate which remains humid for most of the year. Summers are hot and winters are chilling. The climate gets very cold during monsoons as well. Winters are the best time to visit the place.
Negombo has been a port town since its inception and was known for its spices, especially cinnamon. However, today the economy is based on tourism and fishing, followed by seafood and the production of ceramics.
