A major historical and cultural site, Bosra contains several ruins from the Roman Empire as well as the Islamic period. Many of these sites also hold annual festivals showcasing the importance of the place.
The Mosque of Omar, also known as Jami-al Arouss, is a construction from the early Islamic period, a showcase of beautiful minarets and ancient inscriptions. An interesting element of the city is the popular Roman theatre, which can accommodate around fifteen thousand spectators. It is known to be the most attractive and well-preserved amphitheatres in the world, with huge areas for performances.
The Bosra Art Festival is an annual event held every summer which features several Arab and other international performers entertaining the spectators with dance and music presentations. Other sites of interest are the ruins of St. Sergius and Bacchus as well as the Leontus Cathedral.
