Ebla, the ancient city, is located 54 km south-west of Aleppo in Syria. It is now known as Tell Mardikh. Ebla lies in the Idlib Governorate. It is the most important archaeological site in Syria.

This Bronze Age city was discovered in 1964, by an Italian excavation team. The language is Elbaic. During the height of its power, Ebla dominated northern Syria, Lebanon, and parts of northern Mesopotamia, and enjoyed trade and diplomatic relations with states like Egypt, Iran, and Sumer.
