Archaeological teams from various parts of the world have been successful in discovering some exquisite structures in the city. The visitors can visit the ruins of the many temples built during the Muslim rule. The Temple of Baal (sun) is definitely worth visiting. Other temples in the city that are worth visiting include the Apulo Temple and the Temple of Bel.
The grandeur of the architecture of the era is evident in the remains of the magnificent Amphitheatre. The Roman influence can also be seen in the excavated drainage pipes.
Palmyrenes constructed quite a few tombs, most of which are underground, and feature funerary busts carved out of limestone, representing the soul of the deceased. This can be witnessed at the Valley of Tombs.
The city also hosts the Palmyra Festival in May, every year. The festival is a major tourist attraction, featuring camel races, folk dancing, music, traditional costumes and handicrafts.
