Tourist Guide Qal’aat Al Hosn
Qal’aat Al Hosn is one of the most famous mediaeval citadels of Syria. It is located 65 km west of Homs and 75 km south-west of Tartus. Due to its strategic location, Qal’aat Al Hosn overlooks the Homs Gap, the passage that connects Syria to the sea.
The weather is very similar to that of Homs. Experiencing a tropical climate, it has moderate summers and winters. The average temperature ranges between 32°C to 8°C.
Qal’aat Al Hosn is located close to Homs, which has a population of approximately 1,033,000. The nearby town of Tartus has about 93,060 inhabitants.
As the city is located in the strategic corridor, its importance in ancient times was immense. The city was significant for the Crusaders and the foreign invaders in their conquest of the coast. Thus, conflict over it continued through ages.
