Tourist Guide Seydnaya
Seydnaya is a small town in the countryside in Syria. It is located 30 km north of Damascus. It is spread over a hilltop and is surrounded by vineyards and olive groves.
The climate in Seydnaya is very similar to that of Damascus. Summers are dry with no humidity. Winters are cold, often having rainfall. The temperature of the city ranges between 35°C to 2°C on average, annually. The best time to visit is during summers.
The population of Seydnaya is very small, but that of the nearest town, Damascus is approximately 3,000,000. The majority of the population in Seydnaya is either Christian or Islamic.
Seydnaya was the seat of the ancient Patriarchate of Antioch and is considered by many to be second in religious importance to Jerusalem. The name of village itself, ‘Seyda Naya’ means ‘Our Lady’ in Syriac.
