Taiwan went under the control of the army of the Republic of China with the end of the Second World War in the year 1945. The country is divided into two groups—those who want Taiwan to be independent and those who want it to be unified with China. This has led to quite a lot of internal turmoil.
Culture, rituals and customs in Taiwan are very colourful and rich owing to a diverse composition of its population. However, the Chinese culture dominates that of Taiwan. Goods made out of jade is a favourite of all those who visit the country. Peking Opera and traditional Taiwanese dance performances are very interesting to watch. Tourist can also see marvellous works of calligraphy, paintings, wood carvings etc. all over the country.
Taiwan’s geography is as diverse as its culture. It is located in the eastern region of Asia and is blessed with a breathtaking natural beauty. The topography of this country is characterised by hills and mountains covered with greenery, long stretches of beautiful sandy coasts and so forth. Taiwan borders a host of water bodies, namely the East China Sea, Philippine Sea, South China Sea and the Taiwan Strait.
