Safety and Warnings
Taiwan is a country with left-hand driving and that has to be kept in mind if you are planning to drive around. Even while crossing the road, you should first look at the left side and be extra vigilant at traffic signals, as traffic rules are not strictly followed.
The city of Taipei is typhoon ridden and summer is a sure time for typhoons - and sometimes there are autumn typhoons too. A lot of rain and wind is generally associated with a typhoon, so it is advisable to stay indoors during a typhoon as walking outdoors could be very dangerous.
Most cab drivers do not know English, make sure your cab driver understands your destination or else get someone to tell him the destination in Chinese.
If walking on the streets at night, avoid drunken people and any fights going on between gangs.
Be wary of eating food from street vendors or charming little street side restaurants, as hygiene and cleanliness is not at all maintained, leading to dangerous consequences if the food is consumed.
