Daan District is a district in Taipei that is an important commercial, educational, cultural and residential district of Republic of China. Daan means ‘great peace and great safety’. It is a home to three major national universities; the National Taiwan University, the National Taiwan Normal University and the National Taipei University of Technology.
The district has numerous shopping areas and night markets where its visitors can enjoy shopping. The most famous night markets of all are the Tonghua Night market situated in the east of district and the Shinda Night Market situated in the west of the district near NTNU. In the Shinda Night Market, one can enjoy nightlife in foreign restaurants and student-oriented bars as it is also known as student hang out area. Other notable places of interest in Daan include Daan Forest Park, which in its vast area comprises Taipei Municipal Library, ponds, inline-skating rink, two underground parking lots, playground for children, Taipei Mosque, Mongolian and Tibetan Cultural centre.
