Inside the walls of the Old City of Sukhothai, you can find nearly 40 different temples and monuments, including structures showcasing centuries-old Thai culture. The Wat Sra Sri and the Hindu-influenced Wat Sri Sawai are set among beautiful scenery and make for excellent photographs
The world-famous Sukhothai Historical Park is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, which covers the whole area of the old city including the ruins of palaces and Buddhist temples. The Royal Palace lies in the centre of the old city and is surrounded by a moat.
Within the grounds you can find the royal building and a sanctuary called Wat Mahathat. This is Sukhothai’s largest temple with a lotus-shaped chedi (stupa) and nearly 200 chedis still retaining some of its glorious Buddha statues.
Outside the city walls, you can find the Giant Buddha at Wat Sri Chum, which is often found on postcards and brochures of Thailand and is fantastically preserved till date.
