Wat Chaiwattanarm is situated on the western banks of river Chao Phraya, just outside the Ayutthaya Island. It is considered as the most beautiful temples in Ayutthaya and has become a prominent tourist attraction.
King Prasat Thong requested for the construction of the temple in 1630, assumingly as the memorial of his mother’s residence in the area. The architecture boasts of a symmetrical design and it was built as a whole at one-time.
The temple offers mesmerizing views of the sunset from the Chao Phraya River. Boats provide regular tours during daytime. In the night, the temple premises are lit up by bright lights and tourists are provided with night tours.
Special dinner boats are also provided. The Khemer-style prang at the center of complex has very steep stairs and tourists are advised to take note before climbing.
