The Chatuchak Market in Bangkok is the largest market in Thailand as well as in the world. The credit for setting up the market goes to the field-marshal Plaek Phibulsongkram, Thailand’s late prime minister.
He devised the idea of having one flea market in each town. Initially, the market used to be held at Sanam Luang and a number of years later finally residing at its current location.
It is at close proximity from the Kamphaengphet station of Bangkok Metro, or can also be reached by a 5-minute walk from the Mo Chit Skytrain station and Suan Chatuchak station. It occupies around 35 acres and houses more than 15000 stalls.
The market is estimated to be receiving around 250000 visitors each day. This number increases further on the weekends.
The market offers a wide range of products which include clothing, Thai handicrafts, household items, collectibles, religious artifacts, live animals and food-items.
