Grand Palace

Grand Palace is located on the eastern banks of the Chao Phraya River, covering around 218400 sq mts. Other sides of the palace are secured by a defensive wall which is 1900 mts in length.

A canal flows close to the wall making the whole area around the palace appear like an island, known as Rattannkosin. King Rama I devised the construction of the Palace during his reign, in 1782.

The Grand Palace houses several buildings and it served as an official seat of the King of Thailand starting from the 18th-Century up to the mid 20th-Century. Today it is amongst some of the most visited tourist attractions of the city.

Prominent buildings residing within the palace complex include the Wat Phra Kaew, which has an auspicious statue of the Emerald Buddha and is considered as the most important Buddhist temple in Thailand.

Chakri Mahaprasad Hall is built in an Italian Renaissance style which serves as a great example of splendid architecture.
