The Chiang Dao Caves are situated at about seventy-two km north of Chiang Mai on the way to Fang. It a huge complex, which extends around 10-14 km, from the mountains of Doi Chiang Dao.

Great views can be observed from the mountain summit and the whole area is very scenic and untouched by humans. Just outside the cave complex, there is a large water pool containing large and well-fed fishes. The water for this pool comes directly from the mountains.

The entrance to the cave complex costs minimal and spectacular cave structures can be observed with the help of local guides. More than hundred caves have been named but at present only a few of these caves are accessible and only two of them are electrically illuminated.

They both contain holy Buddha images and religious statues. Other caves like Tham Naam, Tham Kaew or Tham Maa can be explored with the help of lanterns or other sources of light.

To visit other deep caves, a local guide is required.
