While visiting Chiang Mai in Thailand it is recommended to travel lightly and bring light clothing such as shorts, t-shirts and cool cotton clothes which can be laundered at reasonable rates here.
To avoid malaria carry a mosquito repellent as there are many places infested with mosquitoes.
The Lonely Planet Thailand guide would be useful if you are travelling to other places in Thailand as it gives a vast amount of information about good eateries and restaurants as well as accommodation and sightseeing.
A compass, sunscreen, hat, sunglasses and light raingear are a few of the things that may come in handy.
Carry traveller’s cheques and a credit card if you plan to stay in any of the luxurious hotels. However, there are several places offering reasonable accommodation as well.
A comfortable pair of sneakers would be useful as you need to walk a lot to explore some of the areas.
