Doi Tung is a village famously known as “Switzerland in Thailand” and aptly so. Seeing the crisp mountain lines of Chiang Rai during the winter season or traversing through the lowered clouds and mist in the rainy season makes for a truly once-in-a-lifetime experience.
The people of Doi Tung are working hard for the revival of the forest. Major contribution goes to the efforts of Her Royal Highness, The Princess Mother who paved the way for the Doi Tung Development Project.
Visitors can readily see the beautiful co-existence of people and nature when they visit Doi-Tung.
The Villa of her Royal Highness was constructed for the Princess Mother and was in use from 1987 up to 1995. The village also has Handicrafts and Cottage industries, which has helped young villagers in the manufacturing of handmade carpets.
These carpets are then sold in International Markets. The Mae Fah Luang Garden is spread across twenty-five hectors and is situated right below the Royal Villa.
