General Informations - Chiang Rai

The best season to visit Chaing Rai is during winters. The air is pleasantly cool and flowers are in full bloom. Chiang Saen, Doi Tung and Hilltribes on mountains are popular tourist attraction which should not be missed.

It is a paradise for trekking fans as the huge mountains and deep valleys provide a perfect challenge. The Buddhist pagodas and stupas offer a nice sanctuary for the spiritually inclined. Small pineapples are sold in many restaurants, which are carved in innovative shapes.

There are streets in the city which are not properly lit and if one does not pay attention, one can slip into deep ditches. Packing a jacket in your list always helps if you are planning on traversing high mountains.

There are ‘fast boats’ available around Golden Triangle area, which are not advisable for family tourists as they go too fast and there have been cases of accidents. ‘Safe boats’, although slower, are definitely recommended.
