Thailand has excellent healthcare facilities, especially in the cities. However, travel insurance is necessary for treatment. It is advisable to get complete health check-up prior to your visit, as well as get vaccinations against dengue fever, hepatitis A and cholera. A yellow fever certificate is necessary for those travelling from an infected area.
The risk of malaria is high in the interiors; carry proper anti-malarial and antibiotic medication. However, these should be carried in their original package along with the prescription. Drink only bottled water and avoid contact with live poultry, the risk of bird flu is high here.
Though Thailand is fairly safe, carry your valuables and documents with you at all time. It is best to be wary of local touts. Travellers should also avoid the southern part of Thailand due on going violent insurgency in the region.
