Ko Tao or Turtle Island is a famous island located in the Gulf of Thailand's eastern shore. This small island stretches across an area of 21 sq. km.

The island is sparsely populated and Ban Mae Hat is where most of population is concentrated. The island is visited by tourists exclusively for scuba diving. This adventurous activity increased the influx of tourism on this island. Now, tourism is the major source of income for the residents here.

The island received the name Turtle Island due its turtle like shape. The island has also become an important ground for the breeding of green and Hawksbill turtles.

When the scuba divers dive inside the water near the island, they can witness the natural wealth of this island. One can see an exotic variety of 'never- seen- before' species under this water.

One such aquatic creature is the blue speckled Stingray. The island is filled with enormous number of resorts; hence tourists won't find any problem to get accommodation.
