If you visit Khon Kaen at the end of November, you can experience the exciting two-day Silk Fair, which has great food and entertainment, not forgetting the exquisite silk products on sale.
Culture buffs will be impressed with the artefacts and bronze sculptures on display at the Khon Kaen National Museum. You can relax and play golf or go swimming at the Ulbolrat Dam (the largest in the region), watch the horse races on weekends at the Khon Kaen Horse racing track or explore the archaeological sites and dinosaur fossils at the Phu Wiang National Park.
Like other historic Thai cities, Khon Kaen also has its share of temples like the Wat Nongwang, which offers a spectacular view of the city and the Bung Kaen Nakhon Lake. Also visit the twelfth-century Prasat Peuay Noi temple which is a one-hour drive from the city.
When in town, make sure you sample Thai delicacies like the Mu Phaeng (grilled marinated pork) and Som Tam.
