The roads of Koh Samui are sometimes littered with sand and water and they can get pretty slippery so watch your step! Be careful especially while driving rented vehicles.
Do not keep your luggage in the front basket as there have been incidents of theft. The taxis in the town do not have meters and there is a chance of getting conned by someone demanding too high a fare.
Always negotiate well before boarding the taxis. There is overwhelming population of stray dogs on some of the streets and they can try to snatch away your belongings from you.
Try to maintain safe distance always and don’t carry hanging bags or things which might attract their attention. If you are planning to take a stroll on the beach, along with the sun-screen, remember to wear thick soled sandals or shoes, as many of the beaches are littered with garbage which contains small glass pieces and other sharp objects.
