The Emerald Pool can be reached from Ao Nang district by either taxi or rented motorcycle. It is a stunning natural pool located inside Krabi’s rainforest. It is estimated to be about 2 meters deep and twenty-five meters wide. Since it is a part of The National Park, a fee of two-hundred baht is charged per person.
The water in the pool comes from the porous rock layers. It contains very high amount of Calcium Carbonate and is thus not suitable for drinking. The high mineral deposits can be found scattered along the edges making them slippery.
The striking feature of this water pool is the changing color of the water. Depending upon the bacteria and algae content as well as temperature of the water, the color also changes.
The water obtains a greenish-blue color when the temperature is high and it is pale green at lower temperatures. Use of any detergents or shampoos is prohibited. Swimming can be enjoyed early in the morning where there is very less crowd.
