Lhasa is located at the north bank of the Kyichu River, a tributary of the
Yarlong Tsangpo River, at an altitude of 3,650 meters above sea level: it is
the highest city in the world!
Lhasa is the capital of Tibet Autonomous Region and the centre of Tibet's political,
economic, cultural and religious activities since 1.300 years ago!
Its name-- "Lhasa"--means "the land of gods" in Tibetan
and, with more than 3,000 hours of sunshine annually, it is also known as "
the City of Sunshine".
Lhasa has many Buddhist monuments and was the seat of the Dalai Lama.
The city can be ideally divided into two distinguished parts: the outskirts,
crowded with sprawling modern concrete buildings, and the core of the old town
which remains practically untouched by modernity.
Thousands of tourists, from every corner of the world, come every year to visit
and explore this vibrant city and its fascinating culture.
