There are many historic sites and famous relics in Lhasa proper and its suburbs. The Potala Palace is the most famous site in the city. At once
citadel, temple, palace and monastery, the Potala is as rich and complex as
the Buddhist faith which inspired it.
Inside the 13-storey central "Red Palace" are great assembly halls
and dozens of richly decorated chapels, including the gold-encrusted reliquary
stupas of seven previous Dalai Lamas: it is a real must if you happen to visit
Lhasa.
Other wonderful and well known attractions include the Barkhor Street,
the oldest road in the city used by the pilgrims during the centuries, the Jokhang
Temple, the Drepung Monastery, the Sera Monastery
and the Ganden Monastery.
But one thing is sure: you will surely discover and admire much more visiting
this mysterious and incredible city.
