Vaccinations against diphtheria, hepatitis A and B, typhoid and rabies are a must before visiting Tibet. Stray dogs can often cause quite some trouble, and it is very important to keep away from them. There are also incidents of petty thefts and pick pocketing in almost all the areas. Thus, caution has to be exercised at all times.
Water is not safe for drinking and tourist should consider drinking bottled water throughout the trip. Food, though mouth-watering, is served in unhygienic ways. Hospitals and clinics are not even of average standard and it will be difficult to find medical stores as well. Thus, tourists should carry some of the important medicines.
One very important thing to be kept in mind is to steer clear of any political processions or protests or for that matter conversation on political issues as well. Tourists should always keep themselves updated with the political situations in the country.
