Merv is an archaeological site in the country of Turkmenistan. The city was a major oasis in Central Asia and is also said to have been the largest city in the world in the twelfth century, albeit for a brief period. With a population of about 130,000 residents, Merv is a listed World Heritage Site.
The climate of Merv is of the extreme and dry variety. Summers range from warm to blazing hot, while winters are mostly cold and pleasant. Snowfall is a rare event and rains are scanty and uneven. However, the average temperatures are agreeable.
Merv is believed to have been founded by Cyrus the Great. The city was a commercial power for a long period; today, it is Central Asia’s most widespread archaeological site. The economy of the city is mainly based on agriculture, textiles and carpets.
