Fujairah lies on the Gulf of Oman in the east of UAE and is one of the 7 emirates of the country. The city covers a total area of 440 sq miles and has a mountainous topography as compared to the other emirates which are largely covered by deserts. The region therefore experiences higher annual rainfall allowing farmers to cultivate crops. Although the city has a warm climate for most of the year, October to March is relatively cooler. Fujairah has a population of 130,000 as per the 2006 census. The city is planning to make future developments in the area near Dibba on the north of the Oman border. There are plans of developing thousand five star villas and hotels to encourage the influx of tourists. Traveling is easy in and around the city with a number of taxis and modern highways. The Fujairah International Airport is located just 1 km from the city.
