It is always better to stick to bottled water for drinking. Uncooked meat or vegetables should be avoided. While visiting the country, immunization against hepatitis A is necessary. Hospitals in Uzbekistan are not of a very high standard, but the government has set up a few highly advanced hospitals with good healthcare facilities in some of the cities.

Uzbekistan is considered safe for tourists however visitors need to be careful at all times. A number of incidents of street crime have been reported recently. One common crime is that of jewellery snatching in the streets so travellers should avoid wearing expensive one and walking alone, especially after it gets dark. Tourists are also expected to carry a copy of their documents (visa or passport) as policemen often ask for it in the course of the normal security check-ups.

Touring the border areas should be avoided unless very important as there are threats of land mines in these areas.
