In Vietnam, the largest city in the Mekong Delta is Can Tho. It is separated from Ho Chi Minh City, the biggest city in Vietnam, by 169 Kms. Can Tho is situated on the south bank of the Hau River.
As per the 2004 census, the population of this city was 1.121 million.
The climate of this place is monsoonal and tropical and the temperature is 27 degrees Celsius and rainfall is 1,635 mm. The dry season is from December to April and the wet season is from May to November.
Can Tho is the most prominent center of technology, science, culture and economics in the Mekong Delta. There are two industrial parks and there is a large freshwater port. There are renowned institutions in the city like Mekong Delta Rice Research Institute and the College of Agriculture.
