Settlements in this region began during the Palaeolithic Period, thousands of years ago. Then, it was ruled by several kings for centuries, and finally, it went under the colonial rule. French were the first to occupy it followed by Japan, Russia and the US.

The Vietnamese architecture is an integral part of its culture. Structures called Pagodas are interesting and found almost all over the country. These pagodas are decorated with beautiful paintings and lavish carvings. The music, art and dance forms of Vietnam are also very popular. Lacquer art, wood carvings, block painting etc. are some of the most important forms of traditional art in Vietnam.

Vietnam is located in Southeast Asia bordering the Gulf of Thailand, Gulf of Tonkin and South China Sea. It also shares its boundary with China, Laos and Cambodia. The topography of this country is made up contrasts comprising hills, mountains, lowlands, highlands, valleys, deltas, waterfalls, beaches and so forth. Fan Si Pan is the highest point of elevation in the country while the lowest point lies in the South China Sea.
