The place is generally humid throughout the year. October-March is the best time to visit the city. . Do carry a travel guidebook with you while roaming in the city.
While on a boat trip to the caves, summer clothes are best to take. Also take along sea sickness pills if not comfortable in the sea. Prefer cover cameras to save it from humidity.
Be careful before buying a camera films, and look for expiry date. Use zoom for people photo and wide angles for capturing temples. Credit cards are mainly accepted at hotels and restaurants. ATM cards can be used for best exchange rates.
US dollar is the second currency here but US coins are of no use except that you can give them to children as gifts. Beware of the freelance money changers seen all around the city. You normally get dongs as change, if you pay in dollars.
For a longer stay you can bring your mobile phone and get a chip for about $30 with 300,000 dong credit.
