Can Tho
Can Tho is a city which is the junction of several waterways of the Mekong Delta. It is situated 170 Kms away from Saigon. Currently, it has transformed to an industrious city that has fish sauce factories and big bottling companies. The main channel of the river that passes through Can Tho is called as Hau River or Hau Giang.
The population of Can Tho which was 0.22 million is almost the largest in the Delta region. In this city, various branches of the River leave their deposits and so the land is most fertile. This city has a big port where large ships can be accommodated. There is ferry service to Xom Chai Island where one can view a beautiful sunset.
Long Xuyen
Long Xuyen is a large town in the Mekong Delta where life moves at a slow pace. About 40 Kms away from this town is the hilly region of Ba.
In this region the ruins of the Oc Eo civilization which date back to the 1st century A.D. can be seen. This civilization was a section of the Phu Nam Kingdom and reached its pinnacle in the 5th century. Long Xuyen is the capital of the An Giang Province and plays a major role in the commerce of the Delta region.
