Marib Dam
Marib Dam performs the task of blocking the ‘Wadi Adhanah’ in valley of ‘Dhana’ in Balaq Hills (Yemen). The existing dam is quite close to ruins of ‘Great Dam of Marib’, which dates to around 17th century BC. That structure had been one amongst the ‘engineering wonders’ pertaining to ancient world as well as central portion of ‘South Arabian Civilization’ around ‘Marib’. This dam can store around 398 millions cu. m. The site of Marib Dam is situated at a distance of 3 Km upstream with regards to ruins of ancient Marib Dam. The objective behind construction of Marib Dam is irrigation of Marib plains.
Temple of Queen of Sheba
This was the earliest known temple for Arabs. It was known as ‘Mahram Bilqus’ during the reign of Queen of Sheba. The term ‘Bilqus’ actually means ‘queen’. In Ethiopia, the word ‘Makeda’ was its counterpart. Later on, Josephus, a historian went on to refer to her by the name ‘Nikaulis’, meaning ‘Queen of Egypt and Ethiopia’.
