Characterised by an extreme climate, Shihara experiences hot, dry summers. Winters are chilly owing to the high elevation, and rainfall ranges from heavy to mild. Visitors can tour the place during the period of September to November, when the extreme nature of the weather is at rest.
Built by the Turks, Shihara was ruled by the Ottoman dynasty. It has also been the site of many bombings which has left the economy of the region underdeveloped. The population follows agriculture as its main occupation.
